I loved the 2019 Vacqueyras Château Mazane. This ripe, sexy, full-bodied powerhouse has loads of darker berry fruits as well as notes of Provençal garrigue, sandalwood, and spice. With moderate acidity, wonderful tannins, and a great finish, it’s one heck of a great value. Drink it over the coming decade. The blend is 60% Grenache, 25% Syrah, and the rest Mourvèdre."

"Based on 60% Grenache, 30% Syrah, and the rest Mourvèdre, the 2018 Vacqueyras Chateau Mazane shows a slightly more modern vibe (it’s aged in tank and barrel) in its rocking red and blue fruits, graphite, smoked earth, and peppery garrigue aromas and flavors. With medium to full-bodied richness, a round, supple mouthfeel, and plenty of underlying structure, it’s a seriously good 2018 Vacqueyras that will have 8-10 years of ultimate longevity."

While I normally prefer the Grande Garrigue cuvée, this might be a step up in 2018, and it certainly shows more structure and length. It does show lovely floral garrigue notes, but the fruit is also plummy and, at times, veers into the realm of warm chocolate fudge. "From a newly purchased estate in Vacqueyras, the Jaume 2015 Vacqueyras Chateau Mazane is similar to the Grande Garrigue, yet has a touch more concentration and purity, and a more focused, streamlined feel on the palate. Asian spices, pepper, lavender, plums and blackberry jam all emerge from this layered, gorgeous red that’s packed with Southern Rhone charm. "Opaque ruby. Powerful, spice-accented dark berry and floral pastille aromas are complicated by suggestions of licorice and cola. Sweet and broad in the mouth, offering intense boysenberry and cherry flavors and a good whack of peppery spices.
