"El Anejón is an eight-hectare amphitheatre that faces the castle of Peñafiel and has been part of the Pago de Carraovejas range since 2009. Marrying Tinto Fino with 12% Cabernet Sauvignon and 7% Merlot, this is a ripe, full-bodied style, even in a cooler, wetter year like 2018, but the power and concentration are framed by attractive oak, with dense plum, liquorice and mulberry flavours and the structure to age. 2025-35"

"The 2018 El Anejón is a blend of 81% Tinto Fino, 12% Merlot and 7% Cabernet Sauvignon from a very steep slope where they have to make it terraced. First produced in 2009, the wine fermented in oak vat and matured in new barrels for one year. It was a very good vintage after the frost of 2017 (when they only produced Pago de Carraovejas); they had enough rain and cooler temperatures, and the crop was very balanced. The summer was dry and warm, the grapes achieved very good ripeness, and the wine finished with 15.5% alcohol. It has a ripe nose with some earthy notes, and despite all the new oak, the wine does not feel too oaky (they also keep the bottled wine for three years before it's released). It's very ripe and comes through as powerful, with plenty of tannin and a dark profile of aromas, developing notes of black olives with time in the glass. They are concerned about the alcohol level in the wine (in the past, they never harvested anything below 14% alcohol), but their main concern is the balance in the wine. It’s another beautiful, full-bodied, powerful Ribera del Duero and has a deeper bouquet of black fruits, tobacco, road tar, black olives, and graphite. Slightly more inward and reserved, yet concentrated and serious, give bottles another year or two and it’s going to shine for 15+ years or more. It’s another brilliant wine from this estate."

"The only 2012, the 2012 El Anejon is the flagship cuvée of the estate and is a parcel selection of 78% Tempranillo and 11% each of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot brought up in French oak. This rock star of a wine got more than a few “wows” in the notes and boasts a fabulous bouquet of crème de cassis, black raspberries, toasted spice, and vanilla bean. Full-bodied, powerful, and concentrated, it’s still incredibly elegant and seamless, with beautiful purity and no hard edges. In addition, its oak is perfectly integrated, and it has a sense of freshness and purity that’s just about off the charts. You can drink this today or cellar bottles for another decade or more. "The 2012 El Anejón is a wine that always feels fresher, younger and with better integrated oak. It's consistently sourced from a specific plot of vines on small terraces, mostly Tempranillo but also with 11% each Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. All the varieties are nicely integrated and the wine feels solid, compact, with no fissures, ripe and generously oaked, but without excess. It's a powerful, modern, ripe and concentrated Ribera, nicely crafted and easy to like. "The 2010 El Anejon de Cuesta Las Liebres is produced with grapes grown at high altitude on chalky soils 96% Tempranillo, 3% Cabernet Sauvignon and 1% Merlot and aged one year in barrel. Of the whole lineup, it-s a clean, delineated, harmonious red, with a more lively palate, and is more soil-driven, with a chalky, supple, almost salty sensation.
