The William Randell range of wines were created in honor of our family ancestor - the esteemed pioneer William Richard Randell (1824 - 1911). The wines are sourced solely from grapes grown on our estate vineyards. Wines in this range are only made in exceptional vintages.
This Shiraz is deep inky red in color with a bright purple hue. On the nose there is an abundance of dark fruits with mocha and dark chocolate notes. The palate shows great depth of fruit and density. Black cherries and spice are supported by integrated tannins which lead to a delightfully long finish.
"This impressive and manicured 2019 Shiraz William Randell has class written all over it. Ripe and concentrated with black cherry, dark earthy tones and ham bone aromas wrapped up in a generous dose of sweet oak. Luscious levels of flavor and oak follow with well-judged tannins providing a complete package to enjoy over the next decade.- Angus Hughson"

"This has impressive freshness of blue fruit and cola-like spices with blackberries and forest wood, as well as a blue-floral edge and some plum cake. The palate has a very vivid feel with such intense, fleshy fruit-presence that carries a long, succulent and flavorful finish. Impressively fresh. Drink over the next decade."

"This is a winter-warming crowd pleaser for the big red lovers in your life. It offers upfront aromas of plums, blackberry and blueberry with undercurrents of baking spice, ground pepper, vanilla bean and chocolate. There's a sweet oak bass note. The mouthfeel is juicy fruited and silky textured with a lift of acidity and a tug of supple, savory tannins. Drink now with protein or until 2030. - CHRISTINA PICKARD"

"From the estate St Kitts and Milton Park Vineyards, night-harvested, each block separately vinified in 4t open fermenters, matured for 18 months in American oak (40% new). A powerful, full-bodied shiraz with blackberry fruit, tannins and oak all driving the long palate. The absorption of the oak into the fabric of the wine is particularly impressive."

"Generous, ripe and plump, featuring flavors of spiced plum, raspberry preserves and kirsch that are fresh and vibrant, with details of blood orange, violet, star anise and gingerbread. Shows terrific focus and persistence, singing on the finish. Drink now through 2035. 500 cases made, 120 cases imported. - MaryAnn WOROBIEC"

"Less jammy than the previous vintage, this is still a beast of a wine, but one with some layers and nuance. The nose is a dense combo of charred oak, golden beet, fleshy plum, licorice root, coffee bean and earthy spices. Muscular tannins on the palate are chalky, while the fruit feels satiny. The oak is in the foreground now but should integrate with time. Don't touch this anytime soon. Drink 2023–2035. - CHRISTINA PICKARD"

"Stereotypical Oz Shiraz to some extent, the 2016 William Randell Shiraz is big, ripe and heavily accented by American oak. Cedar and vanilla notes blend with rich, plummy fruit, those sweet notes brought together and balanced by savoury dry tannins. It's a big-ass steak wine, one that will be appreciated by consumers at steakhouses around the world. - Joe Czerwinski"

"The fruit was crushed into a number of small fermenters, each kept as a separate lot, and after fermentation pressed to American barriques (40% new) for 18 months maturation, the best barrels chosen for this wine. - James Halliday"

"The 2015 William Randell Shiraz comes from the far north of the Barossa Valley and was aged 14 months in American oak (40% new). Vanilla and boysenberries feature prominently, alongside baking spices and powdered cocoa. It's full-bodied and plush but then comes to a crisp, tart finish. - Joe Czerwinski"

"This is a pretty massive wine, oozing with raisiny blackberry fruit and coffee, cola and vanilla. The palate is a mouthcoating blanket of plush, juicy fruit and drying, rather blocky tannins. - CHRISTINA PICKARD"

"(40 percent new American oak) Youthful purple. Powerful, deep-pitched black and blue fruit, licorice, vanilla and violet scents are sharpened by mineral and peppery spice nuances. Broad, sweet and seamless in the mouth, offering concentrated boysenberry and cherry compote flavors accented by allspice and coconut notes. Shows surprising energy for its heft and finishes with impressive energy and supple tannins that are quickly absorbed by the lush dark fruit. - Josh Raynolds"

Gold Medal - 2016 San Francisco International Wine Competition
"A blend of northern Barossa and Eden Valley fruit, this is a firm, full-bodied wine. American oak-derived notes of vanilla and cedar frame crisp plum and blackberry fruit, then add dusty notes on the long finish. Drink 2018–2030."
Wine Enthusiast (August 2016), 93 pts
"Seems to have looked to McLaren Vale and borrowed some of that region's dark chocolate signature, but also added the depth of Barossa Valley shiraz in a top vintage, and thrown in a bucket of firm, savoury/earthy tannins for good measure. Demands further time in bottle. - James Halliday"
- Australian Wine Companion (Issue 2016), 93 pts
"Supple and expressive, with a layer of firm tannins, showing tea leaf and tar overtones to the dark berry and spice flavors. Comes together harmoniously on the long, expressive finish. Best from 2016 through 2022. - HS"

"(raised in 40% new American oak barrels for 14 months): Inky ruby. Spicy, exotically perfumed aromas of cassis, cherry liqueur and fresh violet are complicated by a smoky mineral quality. Sappy, sweet and expansive, offering deeply pitched flavors of bitter cherry, dark berries, vanilla and espresso. The vanilla note lingers on a long, seamless finish that shows just a hint of supple tannins. - Josh Raynolds"
