A purple color with violet tints. On the nose, the beautiful ripeness offers everything an array of black fruits (cherries, blackberries) and toasted spices.
On the palate, fine and concentrated tannins are balanced by a nice salinity. Delicious peppery notes complete the long finish.

"In contrast, I found the 2020 Gigondas to be slightly mid-weight and narrow, but with some classic Grenache charm. Red and blue fruits, spice, and garrigue notes, ripe tannins, good overall balance, and integrated acidity all make for a charming, easygoing Gigondas to enjoy over the coming 7-8 years. This cuvée comes from higher elevation parcels and very old vines. The blend is 95% Grenache and 5% Mourvèdre, co-fermented and aged in wooden vats."

"Swirls of black raspberry ice cream and dark chocolate combine in Vignon's 2019 Gigondas, a blend of 95% Grenache and 5% Mourvèdre from numerous small parcels dotted around the appellation. Matured in a large wooden vat, there's no apparent oak aromas or flavors, just the purity of old-vine fruit, creamy tannins, ample concentration and a bright, vibrant—and long—finish. With its combination of intensity and tension, it should drink well for a decade or more. - Joe Czerwinski"

"Last of the 2019s, the 2019 Gigondas offers a more reserved, medium-bodied, elegant style, with pretty notes of savory red and black fruits, peppery herbs, dried flowers, and obvious minerality. Medium-bodied, elegant, finesse-driven, and lengthy on the palate, it’s a beautiful wine that will benefit from a year or so in bottle and drink nicely for a decade."

"Lastly, the 2018 Gigondas is seriously impressive, revealing a dense purple color as well as a blockbuster bouquet of ripe black and blue fruits, candied violets, peppery herbs, licorice, and Provençal spice. This beauty hits the palate with full-bodied richness that carries silky tannins, terrific mid-palate depth, and a great finish. Enjoy this ripe, sexy, yet also elegant Gigondas any time over the coming 10-12 years."

"One of the gems in the lineup from Xavier is the 2016 Gigondas which is made from 85% Grenache and 15% Mourvèdre, from a number of terroirs, but mostly from higher elevation, limestone sites. Its deep purple color is followed by terrific notes of ripe blackberries, toasted spice, and dried herbs, with a hint of graphite. Full-bodied, rich and concentrated, with brilliant purity and lots of tannins, it’s killer wine to enjoy over the coming decade or more."

"The 2016 Gigondas from Xavier Vignon kicks off with a spicy touch of clove and cracked pepper, then eases into black cherry fruit, a full-bodied, supple mid-palate and a long, creamy finish with just a touch of warmth. Drink it over the next 5-6 years. - Joe Czerwinski"
