La Plume du Peintre - "pen of the painter" - wines (Lirac & Chateauneuf-du-Pape) are only made in select years representing outstanding quality.
Intense garnet color. Aromas of red & black fruits (strawberry, cherry, ripe blackcurrant, blueberry) with hints of liquorice, tobacco and bitter cocoa. Round, elegant, fine tannins display beautiful freshness and a harmony between wood and wine.
Pairs well with saucy meat dishes, beef bourguignon, stew & duck breast.
"As ultimately bottled, the 2016 Lirac la Plume du Peintre is a barrel-aged blend of 60% Grenache and 40% Syrah. It's cedary and spicy, with obvious vanilla overtones to the black cherry fruit. Yes, it seems like a lot of new wood. Is it too much? Well, it will be for traditionalists. But for folks who want a rich, velvety, seamless mouthful of red wine, it'll be fabulous. I'd opt for drinking it over the next decade. - Joe Czerwinski"

"Probably the finest Lirac I've tasted to date, the 2016 Lirac la Plume du Peintre was still in barrel when I tasted it in June. A 50-50 blend of Grenache and Syrah, it's toasty up front, with blueberry and cherry fruit, great richness and freshness and a long, silky finish. It's full-bodied but never seems heavy or overdone, with touches of mocha and Mexican chocolate on the finish. - Joe Czerwinski"

"The first vintage for the cuvee, the stunning 2012 Lirac la Plume du Peintre offers incredible notes of crème de cassis, black raspberries, toasted bread, graphite and spice. Full-bodied, voluptuous and sexy with low acidity, a plush, mouth-filling texture and gobs of sweet tannin, it’s a blockbuster Lirac to drink anytime over the coming decade. - Jeb Dunnuck"
