History tells us that the origin of the Chateau Maltus goes back to the Middle Ages, in the time of the crusades. The Order of Malta, well implanted on the land named Lalande de Pomerol, cultivated vines for the first time on the grounds of the Chateau Maltus.
Nicolas Lassagne acquired this parcel (2.5 ha; 6.17 acres) in 2015. The Lalande de Pomerol AOC is 1,100 hectares in size, producing more than 500,000 cases per year.
Beautiful sustained deep purple color. The bouquet is rich, generous, complex and reveals notes of black fruits. The iron-rich soil gives a fat and metallic taste, which many associates with truffles. The palate is round and powerful with some good integrated tannins. The finish is long and structured.
Chateau Maltus Lalande de Pomerol will be a perfect match for grilled pork chops, beef stew, spanish paella and any strong cheese.
"A ripe, spicy and black-fruited wine, this has some dense tannins as well as fine blackberry flavors. The wine's acidity is muted at this stage, masked by the wine's powerful Merlot fruit flavors. Drink the wine from 2025. - Roger VOSS."

"New estate with gravel and clay soils bought by Vignobles Lassagne with a good vine age average of 55 years. Malo and ageing in barrel, and this succeeds in achieving a supple, rich feel, just a little overly influenced by smoked oak notes. Good silky texture, and plenty of promise. Drinking Window 2025 - 2040." - Jane ANSON.

"A pretty red with currant, blackberry and some chocolate aromas and flavors. Medium to full body. Ripe, polished tannins and a delicious finish. Very nicely done. Give it a year or two to come around. Try after 2023."

"Sixty-year-old vines and a blend with 70% Merlot have produced this richly dense wine. The structure and the fruit are well integrated giving a wine that is smooth, ripe with blackberry fruits and touches of wood-aging flavors. The wine will age, so wait to drink until 2023. - Roger VOSS"

"A blend of 80/20 Merlot and Cabernet Franc, the 2016 Chateau Maltus spent 18 months in French oak before bottling. This deep ruby/purple-colored Lalande-de-Pomerol boasts outstanding notes of chocolate covered cherries, blackcurrants, dried earth, and licorice. With medium body, a rounded, mouthfilling texture, and supple tannins, it’s an incredibly charming, delicious 2016 to drink over the coming 8-10 years."

"The 30% Cabernet Franc in the blend makes all the difference to this rich perfumed wine. It has tannins and plenty of spicy flavors from wood fermentation and aging. The secret, though, is that it also has rich layered blackberries and the acidity to give the wine a lift. Drink from 2020. - Roger Voss"
