Tasting notes:
The 2015 Starr Road Ranch Old Vine Zinfandel shows an intense and appealing dark ruby garnet color in the bowl of the glass. Aromas of blackberry, cherry, vanilla and cassis are followed by a mineral and brown spice note. Full to medium bodied on the palate, balanced notes of ripe black cherry, blueberry, plum with bramble fruit, are presented on the palate, and coats the mouth with plush round tannins. This glorious wine offers immediate approachability, with its luscious soft edges, depth and complexity. The well-incorporated tannins are complimented by subtle oak and cocoa components that carry on to the finish that keeps pumping out the flavor. This delicious wine was aged in 50% new American oak cooperage to round out the vibrant fruit flavors and long enjoyable finish. Enjoy!
"Deep garnet-purple colored, the 2015 Zinfandel Old Vine Starr Road Ranch is a little closed, offering peeks at baked black berries, preserved plums and black raspberries notes with underlying chocolate box and spice box hints. The concentrated, full-bodied palate is well framed by soft, rounded tannins and a lively backbone, cutting through the dense fruit. It finishes with great persistence. - Lisa Perrotti Brown"

"Deep garnet colored, the 2014 Zinfandel Old Vine Starr Road Ranch delivers exotic spice-laced baked brambles notes over a core of prunes, blueberry pie and licorice. Full-bodied and full-throttle in the mouth, it has a soft and cuddly texture and long finish. - Lisa Perrotti Brown"

"The 2013 Zinfandel Starr Road Ranch Old Vine comes from a vineyard planted in 1920. A glorious level of licorice, black raspberry, blackberry, and cassis soars from the glass of this wine that wants to suggest old-vine material from a Mediterranean vineyard – but this is Russian River. Full-bodied, opulent, unctuous and a total decadent, hedonistic and intellectual turn-on, this wine should continue to offer great drinking for at least a decade. These are pretty serious Zinfandels and certainly Gamba’s name is going to have to be included with some of the stars of Sonoma, such as Hartford Court, Carlisle, Bedrock and even the superstar Turley over in Napa."
