"Bright, dark red. Pungent Cabernet aromas of redcurrant, mocha, tobacco leaf, peppery herbs and chocolate. A suave, fine-grained midweight with a distinctly herbal element to its flavors of redcurrant, plum, licorice and tobacco; an element of savory minerality offers another dimension. Ultimately a bit green-peppery for my taste, finishing with mouth-dusting, somewhat drying tannins and a repeating herbal quality. This Cabernet is hard to warm to right now but I'd like to see it again in a year or two. Very 2016 in style. - Stephen Tanzer"

"Bottled in March 2015, the 2014 Estate Selection Malbec seems to have changed its origin to Altamira (but it's not explicit on the label). The wine matured in used 225-liter French oak barrels and cement vats. The nose is ripe and fruit-driven, with aromas of dark cherries and plums plus a subdued minerality and a touch of spices. Most noticeable is the really well-integrated oak (only founder and well-seasoned barrels are used for this wine). The palate is juicy, fresh and has good balance with a somewhat bittersweet finish that is attractive and commercial. This is a great expression of fresh and elegant Malbec from Altamira at a very attractive price point. 130,000 bottles produced. - Luis Gutierrez"
"Chakana’s wines are getting better with every vintage under winemaker Gabriel Bloise. This concrete-fermented Malbec was aged in old oak and is all about fruit and finesse. Minerally, focused and refreshing, this is long and satisfying with a chalky flourish. 2016-22" 
"A full blast of cassis and blackberry aromas conveys ripeness, while a side of murky earth is a barrier to greater excellence. On the palate, this is chewy, tannic and rich. Plum and blackberry flavors are familiar for quality Mendoza Malbec, while this feels a bit rubbery and tannic on the finish. For a marginal vintage like 2015, this deserves praise. "I find the 2016 Estate Selection Malbec to be riper and oakier, with a dusty palate where the abundant chalky tannins give it a powdery texture. It comes from Paraje Altamira, and only 20% of the wine matured in 225-liter oak barrels. However, it feels like that élevage marked the blend quite a lot. 90,000 bottles produced. - Luis Gutierrez"
