Cholila is the name of a town in Patagonia, but more famously, it was the location of Butch Cassidy & the Sundance Kid's ranch. The outlaws bought the ranch in 1901 and lived there for about 4 years before they were forced to sell it & flee to evade detectives.
Cholila Ranch Malbec shows a deep purple color, and aromas of ripe plum and mulberry with violet hints. Ripe black fruits and fig on the palate combine with touches of smoke and vanilla. Powerful yet balanced with a persistent finish.
A value this incredible should be outlawed!
"A label from Bodegas Malma, Cholila Ranch takes its name from the cabin in Argentina where Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid holed up in 1901. Today, Malma farms 314 acres of vines in San Patricio del Chañar; this wine, from estate-grown fruit, captures the area’s cool climate in its lavender scents and herbal spice. It feels fresh and bright, carrying its concentrated fruit with elegance and ease. —T.Q.T.”

"Dark red with ruby tones. Red and darker fruits and a whiff of licorice on the nose. Then surprisingly sweet (3.6 g/l r.s.) and easygoing on the palate, showing good stuffing and balance. A touch of herbal character wakes up the wine's dark fruit flavors. This uncomplicated Malbec finishes with smooth tannins.- Stephen Tanzer”
