Tres Ojos Garnacha Calatayud
Bodega San Gregorio ( Tres Ojos )
Spain - Aragon - Calatayud

Our Tres Ojos – “three eyes” – is named after an ancient walking bridge in the city of Calatayud. The bridge’s three arches earned it the nickname ‘tres ojos’.

This Garnacha is whole berry fermented, like a Cotes du Rhone Rouge. It displays a brick red color with a bouquet of red raspberries, spice and white pepper. The palate is incredibly concentrated and rich. Fruity and juicy with a great depth, ripe tannins and length, yet wonderful elegance and lightness.

vinous logoGlistening ruby-red. Lively, spice-tinged red berry, cherry and floral aromas show very good clarity and take on a hint of earthiness as the wine opens up. Tangy and focused on the palate, offering bitter cherry and red currant flavors that deepen and turn sweeter through the midpalate. Fleshes out on a long, focused finish that features discreet tannins a juicy red fruit character. - Josh Raynolds".

jeb dunnuck logo 250"Tart cherries, cedary herbs, and pepper notes all emerge from the 2015 Tres Ojos Garnacha Calatayud, a medium-bodied, charming, fleshy effort well worth drinking. The blend is 85% old vine Garnacha and 15% Tempranillo, brought up in tank, and it should offer ample pleasure over the coming 2-4 years."

tanzer iwc 87 pts"(includes bits of cabernet sauvignon, tempranillo and syrah; no oak): Bright purple. Blackberry, plum and peppery spice aromas exhibit good vibrancy and power. Firm cherry and dark berry flavors are subtly accented by a peppery nuance, picking up a hint of licorice with air. A candied plum note lingers on the warm finish, which is firmed by gentle tannins"

wa88"The 2012 Tres Ojos Garnacha contains 15% Tempranillo (I wonder why), and unoaked cuvée of 200,000 bottles that matures in vat for at least seven months before bottling. Of course the 200,000 bottles are not bottled at once, so you might find some differences from lot to lot; what I tasted was a very honest, fresh and fruit-driven red with aromas of cherries, garrigue and thyme with a medium-bodied palate, some weight and tannins that would do better with food. This is a red that sells for a song. - Luis Gutierrez"

bti"Black ruby color. Herbal aromas and flavors of peppercorn herb rub and dried berries with a silky, crisp, dry-yet-fruity body and a polished, interesting, breezy spiced melon, kiwi, nuts, and sandalwood finish with a suggestion of oak. A pleasant, easy drinking Spanish red that will cover a lot of bases."

bigger than your head logo 250"Garnacha 2011 is a blend of 85 percent garnacha (grenache) grapes, seven percent each cabernet sauvignon and tempranillo and one percent syrah; made all in stainless steel, it sees no oak, The color is deep ruby with a mulberry tinge; first your nose picks up notes of tar, black olives, smoked tea, followed by scents of spiced and macerated blackberries, blueberries and plums, the whole effect having a slight balsamic cast. Plenty of grip keeps dusty tannins on the palate in support of dense black and blue fruit flavors permeated by hints of bitter chocolate, lavender and graphite; vibrant acidity keep the wine alert and lively. 14.5 percent alcohol. Drink now through 2015 with grilled leg of lamb, braised short ribs, hearty stews. Very Good+. About $10, so Buy by the Case."

Wine Enthusiast 89 Pts"With a hint of rubber and asphalt, the bouquet on this value wine is generous and topped with blackberry and dark plum aromas. The palate is grabby, with clampy tannins and black-fruit flavors mixed with chocolate and spice. The earthy, lightly herbal finish with rubbery nuances is nice. — M.S."

I Wine Review"This Garnacha is sourced from 40+ year old vines and includes small amounts of Cabernet Saivignon, Tempranillo and Syrah. It offers dark berry fruit, earth and graphite on the nose. On the palate, it is nicely focused with more ripe fruit, briar and spice and firm tannins on the finish. GREAT VALUE"
