The Beruttis bought 4 hectares in 1994 in the then relatively unknown zone of Novello which lies on the confines of Monforte and Barolo. A Sorì is an entirely south-facing vineyard. This Sori lies at 230 meters. It is named for the great grandfather that started the Barbaresco vineyards. The vines are an average of 40 years old. Bergera comes from the mid part of the vineyard and is dedicated to Pietro's grandfather who started the estate.
The wine shows a brilliant deep ruby red with garnet reflections. Rich fruity bouquet with hints of cherries, violets liquorice and mint. Good structure with full, cherry-ripe flavors. The tannins are gentle and the spice subtle. It is an elegant wine of great finesse and drinkability.
Starting with the 2017 vintage, the name of the wine has been changed from "Bergera" to "Bergera Pezzole" which is the full geographical name of the cru.
Excellent with wild game, roast, braised or stewed red meats, truffle dishes and aged cheeses.
"Underbrush, violet and new leather aromas come to the forefront on this fragrant red. The bright, linear, elegantly structured palate offers pomegranate, cranberry and star anise framed in taut, fine-grained tannins. It has an almost salty finish. Drink 2026–2036. - KERIN O’KEEFE"

"A full-bodied, well balanced and well structured Barolo with plenty of character, from rich red forest fruit, kumquat peel and sweet tobacco to a hint of balsamic. Quite firm, finishing with spicy cedar. Tempting now, but have patience. Best in 2022."

"This is a dense, serious red with dried-strawberry, orange-peel and walnut character on the nose and palate. Full body and firm, chewy tannins that are polished and refined at the same time. This needs time to soften, but I like the sleek, linear path in the center palate. Drink after 2023."

"Aromas of scorched earth, camphor, grilled herb and leather lead the nose, along with a whiff of iris. The tightly knit, rather austere palate offers dried cherry, cassis, star anise and a hint of game set against assertive, close-grained tannins that grip the close. - KERIN O’KEEFE"

"The 2015 Barolo Bergera is raw and driving in feel, but also surprisingly accessible given its natural intensity. Spice, dried rose petal, red cherry, mint and orange peel give this burly Barolo a good deal of aromatic and flavor complexity. The Bergera is not an easy wine, but rather a Barolo in which the various elements push and pull against each other. Even so, it is undeniably attractive and certainly full of character. - Antonio Galloni"
