"The 2013 Zinfandel Old Vine Gamba Estate Vineyard (no wimpy wine here at 15.9%) shows great classicism in its structure, sweet tannin and totally disguised alcohol, dispelling the myth that somehow 15.9% produces wines that are out of balance, burning and overheated. That is a falsehood that needs to be debunked time after time. Aside from polemics, this is a full-bodied, gorgeously rich, gutsy, full-throttle Zinfandel that is bursting with fruit and character representing the essence of this varietal. Drink it over the next decade or more. These are pretty serious Zinfandels and certainly Gamba’s name is going to have to be included with some of the stars of Sonoma, such as Hartford Court, Carlisle, Bedrock and even the superstar Turley over in Napa."
