"Often mentioned as Virginia’s premier wine grape, Cabernet Franc is the subtler and more delicate of the Cabernets, Cabernet Franc is the proud parent of Cabernet Sauvignon.
Presenting a medium red hue in the glass, Willowcroft’s 2016 Cabernet Franc has a nose filled with cherry, roses, and white pepper.
Not overly complex, this young wine’s midpalate is highlighted by cascading flavors of red currant, licorice, baked cherry, and rhubarb. The finish is smooth and brief with plum, raspberry, and char.
Pairing this wine, I traditionally steer toward lamb or fatty dishes, but it would also pair perfectly with Chinese dishes prepared with Szechuan pepper and five-spice. Drinking nicely now, additional proper cellaring will extend the midpalate and finish. DRINK/HOLD Now – SPRING 2021"
